2009 Tybee 500
Still on the beach
by Bonnie on May.15, 2009, under 2009 Tybee 500
Fifteen minutes into the start and there are three boats back on the beach (two or all three making repairs to their rudder systems) while six boats are still trying to punch through the surf. I’m only sure of seeing JC and Mischa’s sails. The rest of the fleet got out via a mix of luck, handling, and the paddle. Seacats Orange was the first to get their kite up. Royal Green also seems to be making great time.
Sorry kids

…but Bonnie is now officially off the clock. It’s dark and I’m done. Bjorn, Robyn, and Tim have taken the trailer and gone to pick up Seacats White at some park up the road where they’ve limped up. Jake, Frank, Daryl, and I are going to go grab some dinner. I’ll upload the finish photos later.
Two more

I hope I’m not missing anyone as I’ve been talking to a neighbor from home here on the beach. I think it was Accelerated Chaos and TCDYC. Two more boats are in the distance.
Velocity 2 in now

2 other boats are visible and should be in within the next four minutes. It’s going to be really close between Tripp and Mike just before Alec and Keith. Zhik were directly behind.

Chris and David are still 30 miles out with a broken rudder and going about four knots. We may end up going to pick them up.
